Put God, Instead of the Devil, in the Details

I got new glasses a week or so ago – they seemed like a great idea at the time…my ten year old daughter and the 23 year old young lady there to assist us thought they were great. (*Note to self: Maybe check with someone a little closer to my age next time?*) I thought they would be fun, and I went big since I had already decided to finally treat myself to transitions lenses. Unfortunately, I’m regretting the decision an wishing I had gone with my first choice of frames – very similar to what I already had. I don’t hate them, I just don’t really think that they are flattering or the right look for me. What’s a gal to do?

I’ve noticed that when I’m going about my day at home, I don’t notice them…and I can see better. That’s always the goal. I have also noted that when I leave the house, I don’t really care enough to dig out the old pair and I don’t even give them a second thought when I’m out, unless someone notices them. I certainly haven’t lost any friends over them…and, as far as I know, any readers or social media followers…and if I have, well…bye, then!

My choice in frames is just a little minor detail of my life. It’s not the big picture.

In church today, Pastor Michael talked to us about God takes care of all of the little details, even as we tend to worry too much over them. Some of us focus on those details, some tend to look more to the big picture. It’s so easy for us to get lost in ourselves, and in self pity, that we can ‘miss the point and purpose for this season of [our] lives.’

If we give way to self-pity and indulge in the luxury of misery, we remove God’s riches from our lives and hinder others from entering into His provision. No sin is worse than self-pity, because it removes God from the throne of our lives, replacing Him with our own self-interests. It causes us to open our mouths only to complain, and we simply become spiritual sponges–always absorbing, never giving, and never being satisfied. And there is nothing lovely or generous about our lives. ”

Oswald Chambers

We walked through the first few verses of Luke 21 and how God had prepared every detail in fulfilling the prophecy told in the book of Zechariah. At the end of the sermon , here are the questions he presented for us:

Pastor Michael’s sermon begins around 01:30:00 – it is cued up for you!
  1. Do you trust the prophesies and promises of God?
  2. Do you trust the plan and particulars to God?
  3. Do you trust the perfection of Jesus?

Don’t miss the point and purpose for this season in your life! Let’s put God, instead of the Devil, in our details.
