The Messy Bun Mafia

Hair. Coffee. Moments.

When your journal glows…you should probably pick it up…

True story…it was a little weird for a minute…I thought it was the sun coming in and out of the clouds…then I realized it was the glow from the television screen saver reflecting on the surface…but still…coincidence? You decide…

I’ve had a rough couple of weeks…I’ll spare the details, but I didn’t get out of the house much.

And yes, I did pick up the journal – read and wrote a VERY brief passage, reviewed my sermon notes, and then…this…

On a rare sunny day last week, I walked across the yard to collect a stool I needed…I took notice of my posture…slumped, closed, wrapped up in myself, defeated. I was at a place in my Scripture Journal where I was reading and rewriting the book of Luke, chapters 6-7. I had had notes where my pastor had mentioned a super hero posture, or power posture. If you’ve had any psychology training, or even sales training, you’re likely familiar with these terms. The Centurion from the story in Chapter 7 likely had that posture.

I made a choice at that moment…I threw back my shoulders, took a deep breath, stood up tall and let the sun and fresh air soak in. Instant attitude shift.

In regards to the story the Centurian’s told to Jesus by the Jewish elders, Jesus said…

“I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”

from Luke 7:9, ESV

I found some solutions to my struggles over the last couple of weeks, and they are, for now at least, resloved. Faith, discernment, intentional choices, awareness, my posture. The hope is that I can maintain. The faith is that God will see me through this journey. It may sound like a simple story to some, but to me, it is an example of Faith and God’s amazing love and grace…for even the most menial of things.

What is your default posture?

  1. When we face life obstacles, it helps to remember God is with us. When God told Joshua to be strong and courageous it was in the context of a promise:

As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

God first told Joshua- I will never leave you nor forsake you.
