Faith for a Nation, Smiles for the People
This week, most of watched the inauguration ceremony as it happened, live streaming on our favorite outlet. At a time when our country is so divided on so many levels, it is important for us to remember who is in control. Whatever party lines you stand on, whatever your beliefs, whatever your feelings about who is and is not in office – we must remember who is in control. If you can find nothing else to focus on, keep in mind that our country now has a woman, a black woman, in the office of Vice President. What a thing to celebrate! In many other countries, this would nothing new…let’s be sure to raise our sons and daughters to understand that it should not be ‘unusual’ or ‘new’ here, either. And let’s celebrate how far we have come that it has happened. Today, I’d like to focus on some scripture to remind us who is in control of our world, and to whom we should look for strength and guidance.
We can all enjoy the fun with Bernie’s now infamous mittens, and I think we all VERY MUCH needed that laugh. Who knew all we needed was a comfortable man in mittens to unite us for a moment?
I actually made one myself for a friend, but didn’t share it. She has it. So it may end up out there somewhere someday…but, I’ll let all these great folks have their day…I love a good meme and am a self proclaimed gif addict…but a creator of such things, I am not.
My favorite, so far, is this one shared by Mad Hatter Creations of Bernie being added to a Bob Ross Painting:
We must not allow ourselves to be further affected by the events of the world. It is too much to bear. We absolutely MUST hold tight to the promises of God. Let’s take a look at a few verses reminding
It’s so easy to worry and stress, even obsess over every thing that is happening in our homes, our communities, our states, our country, and even the world. I havae to admit, I’ve had lots of moments of confusion, frustration, even ager. I find that when I let go of that, and spend some time in prayer and in the Word of God…I can leave things to his control that I cannot change or affect. Then, I can focus on the things that I CAN affect – my household, my children, my community, my schools, my work…and perhaps, maybe, spread a little love and light to them that might change someone else’s day through them.
God is charge of this show, not us…it’s really just that simple. Whoever is put at the forefront of our nation, whatever paths are taken…God will see that those paths lead to ensuring that his plans and promises come to pass.
Far be it for us to think we have much control…sure, we must fight for the greater good, fight for those who need fighting for, protect our rights, vote our conscious and belief…all of those things…for doing nothing is just that…doing nothing…God does not ask us to be idle.
I mean, really. How else can we answer this call? But to HUMBLE OURSELVES and PRAY? If you are a Christian…and NOT spending time in prayer, what is holding you back? I beg of you…seek HIM first…be the light that shows others what it means to walk in the love and grace of God.
Oh, there it is again! A friendly reminder for us to PRAY…not just for ourselves and our personal needs, but FOR ALL PEOPLE – EVERYONE, even the 12 people on the planet that haven’t heard about those mittens yet! EVEN THE PEOPLE IN OFFICE – This is the third consecutive president to be a part of election with major division across the country. With just downright evil and hate. From both sides – I’m not pointing any fingers here. Heck, I’ve been more than a little annoyed by both sides myself…So, let us all just stop the nonsense and pray. And Seek God. And love each other. Listen to each other. Be respectful to each other.
See how it all runs together and overlaps? I feel any additional commentary on these two verses would be quite redundant!
I tell you what, friends – my soul has rarely felt as weary as it does not. But, if I stop and pick up that shield…put on that Armour of God…mmm…child. yes. If you’ve never completed the Armour of God study by Priscilla Shirer, you really need to grab that one.
ALL your heart…not just parts of it…not just the parts you are willing to let go…ALL of it. The good, the bad the ugly…ALL YOUR HEART… Let him help you see what you need to see and understand things as best you can…he will guide you and set you right.
This is one of my favorite verses…and one of very few that I actually have memorized…when I don’t understand something, when I don’t like something, or in my worldly view, don’t ‘approve’ of something…I just shut my mouth and start saying this verse…sometimes I only get so far as to say ‘your ways are not my ways,’ which of course is just my way of saying – ‘I’m not messing with this, you know better than me what to do with this.’ It helps me to quiet my thoughts, my tongue, and my reactions. He has such greater plans than you and I.
Well, there you are friends! I am so pleased to have finished this post…this is one of my favorite type of post, and wouldn’t you know it’s always the days I plan to work on these that get turned upside down and backwards? Well, not today, Satan, not today. I may have no idea what’s for dinner (pretty sure my babies are going to remind me of that ANY SECOND now…). We shall carry on!
I hope that you found something here to remind you of your faith, or something that may be comforting to you…even if you just found a smile, I’m so glad you joined me!
