How to Wash Your Curly Hair
I have spent about 3 years learning about curly and wavy hair. Much of that time, I spent washing my hair upside down. It was uncomfortable, awkward and painful. And I’m not alone. That’s not true for everyone of course, but it’s true for many. If that is true for you, I hope that you will find this post helpful.
In the video below, you’ll see that I combine many different methods of washing and caring for curly and wavy hair. You will see that I focus more on process than product. I cannot stress this enough – the PROCESS is so much more important than the products you choose. The products do matter (You can read more about cleansers HERE and conditioners HERE), but the products I use may not turn out to be your favorites. You can find a list of my favorite products at the end of this post.
There are so many great techniques for styling and getting the perfect end results for your hair, today, we’re focus on the wash only – I wash my hair, generally, about once a week. This is with cleanser. Usually, about 3-4 days after washing, I’ll do a co-wash. This means that I replace my cleanser with a very very small amount of conditioner and go through the same routine. This helps to keep the scalp clean, especially in the warmer months when your scalp may get sweaty. If you work out or are involved in sports, you may do this more often.
I could write a book about the video, but I think it speaks for itself! In the video, I promised to add links to the ladies I thanked and to the products mentioned in the video – I’ll add that I must give a HUGE shout out to my dear friend, Cat, for filming the video for me – we had so much fun chatting while filming the video – be sure to check out her GORGEOUS nails about halfway through the video!
