5 Simple Ways to a Create Poshmark Background

…without turning your home into a photography studio.

Or eBay, or Mercari, or Facebook Marketplace…whatever platform it is you might using to sell stuff…you need good lighting, and you need a clutter free and clean space to work. Even if you have a very limited space t, I want to show you some ways to make that happen. Here are five simple options that just might do the trick if you are primarily selling clothing. We can address small home goods and such another day, if you’d like!

The goal here, especially if you’re new to Poshmark, is for you to spend little to no money and utilize items you already have in your home. Once you have an established account, then you might want to invest in a better space, or you might find that free, or close to free, background space works just fine!

1. Rod or Ceiling Track

Try a curtain rod or inexpensive track. At most, you might spend $20-$30 here, but you can likely pull this off with items you already own. If you have a good desk lamp or a ring light, here’s how you could set up an existing closet or shower as a background for your photos:

(Don’t worry! It’s a SUPER short video!)

I also love this ceiling track that I purchased from Amazon. You could easily install this inside a closet if it you don’t want it to be visible. And at just $19.99, when you’re ready to invest a little bit into your Poshmark store, this is a great investment. I use it for a background when making videos, and may eventually use it for a Poshmark background as well. All you need is a white curtain, sheet or even just a large piece of fabric. These can purchased second hand at your local thrift store or at a local discount store. The only complication here is that you still need something to hang your items on. If you have that handy, then it will work. See Option #5 for how I work that out. You can also often find clothing racks & dress forms on Facebook Marketplace, but again, I don’t want you to spend money on things like that while you’re getting started.

Push Play and check out how smooth it glides!

This ceiling track might be perfect IF you have a dress form or something to hang your items on.

2. Blank Wall or Door

This is a simple option! I struggle with a blank wall – because of paint colors, or just having a clear wall space. My friend, @NashvilleNita on Poshmark, uses a Command Hook on a black wall and that works great for her! Another option would be to simply remove a photo from a wall and hang your items on the nail or screw holding those in. Just be sure that it’s a sturdy spot and that you won’t damage your all.

Here, one photo that I could take down…but don’t want to, and another that is on too skimpy of a nail.

For a door, you can simply use use an over the door hook. One that hangs lower will be easier for you to get eye level photos. A wreath hanger is a great option – I really like the idea of this adjustable one, but really anything you can pick up at the dollar tree or even a thrift store will work just fine.

3. Attractive Wall or Space in Your Home.

Let’s say you have a pretty, uncluttered, balanced space in your home with good lighting…such as a foyer with a bench or a nice plant or coat rack? That might be a great spot to take photos. Here a couple of places I COULD consider, but I would constantly have to move our household clutter (aka, my children’s stuff) and I’m not interested in fighting that battle.) You can see, below, spaces I might consider, and why I’m not going to bother. 🤣🤣

I mean, maybe the kids are the problem, or maybe it’s me?

4. Outside

Outdoor spaces often give us the best lighting without the need for extra lamps and cords. Depending on the climate in your area, this might or might not be a good solution. Morning and evening are typically the best. You’ll want to choose a shady spot that still gets plenty of natural light.

I happen to have a pop up tent and considered using that for shade on this random platform we have in our backyard (which I love – yep, random unfinished project…but it’s a great place to stretch, do yoga, chill!) but then it rained for days on end, so even with the covering, that was just inconvenient, which led to solution number five…

Here are a couple of other spaces I have utilized. We have this little gymnastics bar, and I ran a chain across the swing…those both work well for me! Outside can work great with no additional backdrops!

These spaces both work well without an additional backdrop!

If you have a nice brick wall, that can work as well…just be sure not to place your clothing too close to the brick so that they don’t snag.

5. A Storable Studio

What I have in my home may not be what you have in your home…so, you’re going to want to think outside the box here. You want something that’s not going to show all the wrinkles, something that you can put away – slide under a bed, tuck away into a closet, behind a door…whatever works! Or, if you’re lucky enough to have clear garage or basement space, utilize that, then you don’t have to put it away. If you happen to have a LARGE projector screen, that might work! We have a small stand up one, and it’s just not quite tall enough for most clothing items, but I may use it for some items. So, here’s what worked for us: I had a fold up room divider – just the right size, and I didn’t really need it- so I decided to make use of that.

Check out the video below to see how I gave it a simple makeover without buying a thing!

Brainstorm with me in the comments and let me know what you come up with – it might help someone else think about what they have in their home to work with!

Which of these solutions are you going to try?

Let me know!

What do you need to tackle today?

You just might give me some ideas for projects I need to tackle!

My goal is to bring you a new “TACKLE TUESDAY” post each week as we move through out this year. Some will be personal and household related, others will be business related.
