The Saddest Verse. The Brightest Hope.
This verse breaks my heart…that God would look down on his creation and be grieved. It’s one of those verses that we don’t really dwell on…because who wants to dwell on THAT?
What I wonder, is He sorry because we failed Him, or because we are not enjoying the richness of His blessings? Did he give up on us?
No, dear reader. There is a bit of history and additional reading here, if you care to dig…discover the Pentateuch and the meaning of the word Nephilim. And read through the book of Genesis to understand the whole story. It’s a long road of wonder & curiosity to go down…and could take you in many directions. I won’t dwell on that today. After a little study, I am confident that our Creator was heartbroken at the state of His creation, and that the inhabitants of the earth did not grieve their sin or look to their Heavenly Father. Knowing that the world would be trapped in this vicious, destructive cycle…
The moment the apple was bitten, it all changed. And our hearts were different…and this broke the heart of creator, as he is always heartbroken when when we engage in sin.
And then hope.
The Lord found favor with Noah, and so the story of the Arc that we all know begins…and the Great Flood…and then the rainbow.
There will always be Hope in the Lord.
Just a short, random thought that passed through my mind as I am walking through Genesis at a snails pace. I hope that you find Hope in the story, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on these verses, and this chapter of Genesis!
Much Love to you and yours!

I am using the ESV Illuminated Scripture Journal to walk through Genesis. Writing the entire text is helping it to sink in, and makes my studies so much dearer.
That verse breaks my heart, too. It breaks my heart to think that as humans we have disappointed God time and time again after everything He’s done for us. He’s given us so much and we take advantage of it.
This is such an eye opening post! Thanks for sharing!
