Community?

I have been an educator for over 15 years.  Why is so hard to come up with a book to read to a second grade class???  The topic is communities.  Any thoughts?

Love our class this year. I have already made one visit, and what a sweet bunch of kiddos and amazing teacher! Can’t wait to go back. Here’s to good school years  – we all need those!

So, the boys in my life suggested we just watch an episode of Jericho.  ‘Cause that’s all about community, right?  That should go over well…sigh.

BBF’s – Best Baseball Friends…

BBF's - Best Baseball Friends...

These two have been hanging out at the ball park together for 2-3 years now…so now they have matching shirts to support the team…
These were super easy! Don’t be scared!
Get some Wonder Under fusible Interfacing. Cut out your letter. Here, I did one P larger than the other and stacked them.
Iron the fabric onto the interfacing of the smaller letter, then cut it out (you are going to trace a mirror image of you letter onto the backing of the interfacing – easy, easy). Do the same with the smaller letter.
Then, peel the backing off the smaller letter, place on the larger letter…iron on.
Now – the fun part. Peel the backing off the larger letter, and iron onto your shirt!
I do a quick straight stitch around the border to hold it on, you can do a prettier applique/embroidery stitch if you’d like!

Pirate shirt

Don’t judge me. I know it’s not perfect. There are only 8 games in our Fall Ball season.  So, yea. We just get ‘er done.

Added a little ruffle to the bottom of Molly’s t-shirt – how to do a ruffle – pretty easy – do a quick google search. Lots of ways – I like sewing 2 loose straight stitches…just easier to work with!

Have fun with it!

Nothin’ doin…

You’d think I have been sittin’ on my toushie doing nothing interested…oh, how I wish! Never a dull moment around here.  Fall is always busy with nap mat covers, but that seems to be winding down. I think the last group of kiddos all started school this week, so hopefully everyone is having soft snuggly naps.

So, here’s what I’m working on at the moment (usually have 2-5 things going on at a time.SIGH.):

Princess Party on Saturday. Yep, it happened.  Don’t fight it, mama’s.  There is nothing you can do to stop it.  SO, of course we have to make a princess dress – the plan was to do a little tutorial for you, but ya know…it’s already out there…don’t reinvent the wheel for this one — check it out over here at The DIY Mommy.  I will get that finished up in the next day or two, and get you a picture of our version!.

Made one of two curtain panels for said princess’ room…Curtains are not my favorite thing, but the Missouri Star Quilt Lady is one of my favorite people on the planet.  Seriously, if you sew – I didn’t say if you quilt – I said if you sew! –  you need to check her out  on YouTube, Facebook, wherever – I used the “Self-binding Baby Blanket” method to make curtains. Oh, yes I did!  And it worked. Oh, yes it did.

And of course there’s the ever growing list of boy scout patches to put on, baseball pants to be patched, baseball fan shirts (those are awesome – will get you pictures of those ASAP, too!)

So, we’ll get everything all finished up, get you some good pictures, and share with you our little money saving tricks…

Would love to hear what you are most interested in seeing and hearing about!  Have great days!

Why we do the things we do –

Edit: This post was moved over from a previous blog, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to sew much for the last couple of years due to health issues, and well…life..I do have a stack of projects I am looking forward to finishing up so that, hopefully, someday, I can quilt a bit – there are a few boxes of saved shirts and scraps for some quilting projects! Feb 2020 💜 Cindi

So what am I all about?  Well, saving money, eliminating waste, and giving new life to unwanted stuff.  For me, for you, for everyone. There are things we all need and want – and I’m all about finding ways to get us those things as frugally as possible.  2.5 years ago, a little girl came into my world – and if you have a little girl, you know all about all the pretty little dress there are out there…and it would be so easy to ALL   uh, hem…far too many of them.. But, alas, that would break the bank…and so, I decided I better learn to sew…lucky for me, I inherited a horse of a sewing machine from my grandmother…so no need to buy one of those…so, off to shop for fabric I go…Um. Well…guess what?  The fabric to make a dress costs almost as much as a new or used dress!  WHAT?  So, back to the drawing board….

Of course, my first project for her was the ever popular pillow case dress….so, yep, you guessed it..headed to goodwill and bought some pillowcases…and 2-3 mess ups later, I had some super cute dresses…Now, I had already made myself a Princess Leia costume from an old sheet, so I just knew I could do more than that… and with the help of some amazing bloggers, tutorialists, YouTubers,  I figured it all out.    I can sew all of these wonderful dresses, accessories, etc…from sheets. sheets. and more sheets. Sew many sheets!

My favorite things to make?  Well, dresses of course. My favorite thing to make for others?  Nap mat covers, cases, etc.  Why?  Because they quick and easy, and I can save you some serious dough.  A quick little search for a nap mat cover will tell you that you can easily pay over $50.00 for something for your child to sleep on at preschool…And, yes, I have made one of those snazzy covers from all new fabrics…and, yes, I will happily make you one, too.  But, I can also make a few snips and snitches in a second hand sheet and offer you a simple cover that will last all through preschool and beyond for much less.  But that’s just one example of simple fabulousness.  If you can dream it, I’ll bet I can figure it out…

Of course I make other things – it’s too much fun to sew.  And, of course, all around our home you’ll find different and upcycled uses of things and I will share some of those with you here.  I have several spinning in my head right now – just need a good day to snap some pictures for you.

So, follow along on our journey and we’ll have some fun – maybe you’ll buy something, maybe you won’t – I will just hope you will walk away having learned something useful and with a smile on your face.

Hello, world!

Hello, world!

Spending a little time setting the blog up today – which means I won’t have real post for you, and this will quite possibly be the most boring blog post you’ll ever read. So, here’s hoping for more interesting topics later…

What can you hope for?  Fun pictures and tutorials on how you can make fantastical upcycled creations at home, explanations of some of my mistakes so that you can avoid them, and I’ll share with you links to some of the wonderful sites that have helped me along my “learning to sew” journey.

What do I hope for from you?  That you’ll learn something or be inspired to create something for someone you love.  And, if you find yourself to not be a sewing kinda person, that you’ll visit us here, on facebook, and on etsy and allow me to create something wonderful just for you.

Have a wonderful time exploring – I’ll be back soon with something interesting to say…
