But does it ACTUALLY work?

Does the denman brush actually work

I find myself asking that question about just about every product I purchase, or consider purchasing…that, and does it last? Am I going to throw it out in a month…or even a year? I’m of that generation that remembers things being built to last, rather than almost everything we purchase, including our very expensive cell phones, being disposable. I am loving the recent trend of finding ways to repurpose things, buy less STUFF just for the sake of stuff, and finding ways to reduce what goes into our garbage cans. It’s one of those things my generation tried to teach, but I don’t really think we managed to make it stick. The young people of this generation seem to be doing a much better job of that.

See, here’s the thing…sometimes we try new things and immediately just give up on them because they didn’t do what they were supposed to do…but, before you do that…ask yourself…are you ACTUALLY giving it a fair shot? Are you following the proper instructions/guidelines? Did you ask for help or advice? Before you ask yourself, ‘DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK?’, ask yourself this: ‘AM I ACTUALLY WILLING TO GIVE IT A FAIR TRIAL?’

It took me a little time to take the plunge and actually purchase the Denman Brush. Even then, I went to an actual store and purchased it so I could see it for myself…it’s one of those things that seemed to good to be true…too easy…too, well, perfect…so, I picked up the simple, yet somehow regal, looking package and gave it a good once over. This was probably about year ago? When it wasn’t a big deal to just walk in a store and manhandle all the beauty products. Liking the quality of the actually brush and whatever magical rubber and plastic parts it is made of, I bought it.

I have long, wavy/curly hair. If your hair is different from that, that doesn’t mean this brush won’t work for you. Try a google or YouTube search for your hair type/length/etc and Denman Brush. I’ve even spotted it in the hands of barbers styling men’s hair. I am, though, coming from that place of my hair type, so that’s what I’m able to share with you.

The first few times I used it, I didn’t quite get it. I didn’t see the draw. The wow factor. The OHHH, wow.

So, I went in search of some tutorials and advice from friends in hair groups, and tried again. And again.

Fast forward to current day: at the risk of sounding a little pretentious, I FREAKING LOVE THIS BRUSH…..seriously. LOVE IT.

Do I use it every time I wash my hair? No.

Do I use every week or even month? No.

Why? Well, consider this: It’s a STYLING BRUSH. Not a grooming brush. Yes, I use it to detangle in the shower, sometimes. But, more often, I use a wide tooth comb for that.

So, what do I do with it?

In the shower, I use it for product distribution and detangling. I’m not going to get into all that. You can watch my full wash day video here, if you’d like more info on that.

Once I apply my first actual styling product (a filler, Innersense Whipped Creme Texturizer), I will use the Denman Brush to distribute that product, and twirl chunks of hair around the brush to create a ringlet. I describe as a heatless curling iron. If you’d like to actually see that process in more detail, let me know, and I’ll work on it.

Once out of the shower, and my hair has set in a hair towel for a bit, I apply my second styling product (a sealer, EcoSlay Orange Marmalade). Depending on what kind of curls/clumps I’ve got at this point, I might use the Denman Brush for this, and I might just use my hands to apply the gel.

Again, I don’t use it all the time…because it does take a little extra time and effort, though really not very much. But, honestly, I’m at home most of the time and/or usually put my hair up, so I don’t really care what it looks like, as long as I’ve gone through the motions of maintaining it’s health.

If I’m going ‘out-out’, I’ll usually make a point to use the Denman.

Would I recommend it? Yes. To whom? Well, basically anyone with hair.

Questions? Ask! Comments? Please! Have you used this brush? How do you like it?
