What Can You Accomplish in a Microwave Minute?

Time. We never seem to have enough of it. It moves faster and faster the older we get. Just this morning, in fact, I kissed my daughter goodbye as she left for school and said, ‘I’ll see you soon!’. Her reply? ‘Well, not soon, but later…’ How different are the perspectives of a child and a, um…’mature adult’!

I’m not sure where I first heard the term ‘Microwave Minute’, but it’s something ingrained in my head…basically, when you’re standing around waiting for the microwave to finish, or the proverbial pot to boil, use that time to get something done. Instead of just standing around waiting, here are some things you can done in that ‘minute’:

Time flies when your (crossed out) getting old - change to having fun
Isn’t it amazing how differently we see time as adults?
  • Make an appointment
  • Unload top rack wipe down a cabinet section
  • Wash a pan
  • Text a friend
  • Send a postcard
  • Wipe down a section of counter top
  • Clean one window (yes, it’s ok to just clean one!)
  • Prep the coffee for the next pot
  • Get the mail
  • Sort through the mail
  • Update your grocery list
  • Check the fridge for leftovers that can be thrown out
  • Flip the laundry
  • Put up a couple of pair of shoes that were left by the door.
  • Pet your dog
  • Clean your dog dish
  • Flip the laundry
  • Sort a few of pairs of unmatched socks
  • Skim social media for posts you might want to engage in.
  • Make a quick list of things to do later
  • Declutter a ‘hot spot’ – you know that spot where things collect on your counter
  • Drink a glass of water
  • Check your calendar for upcoming birthdays – add cards or gifts to your shopping list
  • Read a school related email
  • Read a couple of emails, delete some junk email
  • Delete unneeded photos from your phone
  • Upload photos from your phone that you want to save
  • Create a new playlist
  • Clean your glasses
  • Put your hair up
  • Slap on a little makeup
  • Get dressed
  • File your nails
  • Say a prayer
  • Read over your prayer list
  • Work on Scripture Memorization
  • Read a chapter in the Bible
  • Read a couple of pages in a book
  • Bag up donations or recycling
  • Take donations/recycling to the car

This is certainly not an all inclusive list, and that magical ‘minute’ is certainly not reserved only for the microwave – think sitting in the car line, waiting at the doctors office, on hold, that rare occasion that you’re actually ready to go EARLY and have a few minutes to kill…

What are some thing that come to mind for you after reading this list?

What can you tackle in a Microwave Minute?

What do you need to tackle today?

You just might give me some ideas for projects I need to tackle!

My goal is to bring you a new “TACKLE TUESDAY” post each week as we move through out this year. Some will be personal and household related, others will be business related.
