Curly Girl Method? Not Sure Where to Start? Right Here.

Let's take a a curly journey together

Decided to take yourself down that little rabbit hole that is the Curly Girl Method, did you? Well…don’t say you weren’t warned. You’re going to be bombarded with SO MUCH information – much of it contradictory – that your head will spin, but, hey, maybe you’ll get some good curls out of that whirly twirly?

Let's go on a curly journey together. Click this photo to subscribe and receive emails each time a new curly hair post is shared.

I’m about 2.5 year into my ‘curly journey’ as it is often called. I want to walk you through what, in my experience, are the things you most need to know, and in what order. I’m not sure how many posts I’ll have in this series, but you can read them all here with the tag curly journey so you find them all, or just those that are relevant to you. Also, I want to fully transparent here: I’m coming at this journey as a laywoman. I’m not a professional.

Here’s what I’m bringing to the table:

  • I’ve done all the reading. And then some.
  • I’ve watched all the videos. And made some.
  • I’ve tried many of the products and almost all of the methods.
  • I’ve had the curly cut.
  • I’ve cut my own hair.
  • I’ve gone from slightly wavy hair as a child to mostly curly hair as a middle aged adult.
  • I’ve learned what it takes to make my hair as curly as I want it: without a curling iron.
  • I’ve learned what it takes to make my hair as healthy as it can be.
  • I’ve learned my limits: what I will and won’t do for ‘perfect hair’ (hint: it’s all perfect), and what I am willing to spend on that process.
  • I’ve walked several friends with wavy and curly hair that I didn’t even know they had through this process with great success..because other men and women were willing to share their journeys with me, and the world. We pay it forward.
  • I do actually have a background in education, if I can channel my inner teacher, this series is going to be amazing!

What I cannot do, and will not attempt to do, is teach you about ethnic hair, or the hair of black woman. I can tell you a few basics, things I’ve picked up and learned from THEM, AND a few things that might make your journey better…but, I have not, obviously, walked that road. If you have questions about that that you can’t find the answer or solution to, please ask in the comments! I do have friends and colleagues that I can ask and I’ll do what I can to find your hair solution.

Now that the intro is done, here is a listing of all of the posts that I have planned for this series – as they are added each week, you will be able to see them all. If they are posted, they are linked! If there is a topic NOT covered, please let me know! In each topic, we will address common terms, techniques, common stumbling blocks, what to look for, as well as what to avoid. I’ll be sharing with you some of my favorite tools and products, as well as some others that I don’t personally use, but have a great reputation. Some of these will contain affiliate links, most will not.

  1. The history of the Curly Method…what it is, where it came from, and what it has evolved to.
  2. The final wash. What it is, and why you need to do it.
  3. Water: without it, your journey will be short.
  4. How to choose the right cleansers.
  5. How to choose the right conditioners.
  6. How to choose a deep conditioner or hair masque
  7. Can I still color my hair?
  8. Curly Silvers

If you’d like to make sure that you don’t miss out on these posts, please subscribe below and I will send them to you! You won’t get anything else, just a quick email to let you know a post is up. Once the series is complete, weekly emails will cease, and I will only send you posts that are specifically relevant to curly hair. You may, of course, unsubscribe at anytime.

I look forward to walking through this journey with you, AND digging deeper into this method. There is so much information out there, and I hope to give what you need to love your hair, and do a little myth busting in the process.

I hope you’ll join in!
